Patchwork

Patchwork is a two-player board game created by Uwe Rosenberg and was released in 2014. The game is about building a quilt out of Tetris-like pieces. The game was designed around making a quilt, which is an interesting idea.

Why is Patchwork Popular?

Patchwork is rated as one of the top 100 board games of all time on Board Game Geek. It is a fantastic two-player game that packs so much into such a simple game. The game is deceptively “peaceful and harmonious” on first inspection, but once the game is in progress, it becomes evident that the game is “devious and cutthroat”.

Game Components of Patchwork

Three small game boards. A pile of cardboard bits. A few wooden bits. Five special patches on the time board. Buttons on the time board.

Game Setup of Patchwork

Each player will take a quilt board, a time token, and five buttons. Each player places their quilt board in front of them. The buttons not given to the players form the bank. Set aside the special tile as well (shows 7 x 7 on it).

Gameplay Mechanics of Patchwork

Players take turns buying patches and adding them to their quilt boards. Each patch has a cost in buttons and time. Players move their time tokens along the time track, and the player furthest behind goes next. The game ends when both players reach the end of the time track.

Game Objective of Patchwork

The objective of the game is to earn as many buttons as possible by strategically placing patches on the quilt board.
