How To Setup Wingspan Asia
To set up Wingspan Asia, particularly for the Duet mode, start by laying out the boards for the dice, flock tokens, and cards in the center of the table. Place three cards face up on the board, with the rest in a shuffled face-down pile. Randomly place four goal tiles onto the Duet board. Each player receives a game mat, eight cubes of their chosen color, two bonus cards to choose from, and 15 Duet tokens placed on each bird space on their board. Deal each player five bird cards and one of each of the five food tokens. Players then decide which of these items to keep, typically aiming to retain the food needed for their first and possibly second bird card. The remaining food tokens go into the general supply, and the first player is randomly determined, receiving the first player token.
Gameplay Mechanics and Game Objective
Player Experience
Wingspan Asia offers a rich and engaging experience, especially for fans of the series. The new Duet mode is a standout, providing a standalone 2-player game that introduces a fun area control element. The additional bird cards and bonus cards add new strategic layers without increasing complexity. However, some players may find the end-of-round goals in Duet mode a bit limited, leading to frequent ties. The game’s production quality is exceptional, with beautiful illustrations and eco-friendly materials.

Personal Thoughts on Wingspan Asia
Wingspan Asia is a must-have for fans of the Wingspan series. It is ideal for those who primarily play with two players, thanks to the new Duet mode. The expansion also caters to larger groups by enabling 6-7 player games. However, if you’re on the fence, the Oceania expansion might offer more value for some players. Overall, Wingspan Asia is a delightful addition that enhances the Wingspan experience with new cards, mechanics, and beautiful components.
