Vultures (1987)

Vultures

“Vultures” is a board game designed by Mike Henry, who formed Henry Games to publish it in 1987. The game is played on a pentagram board, which has been used in various ancient games. The game has been known by different names, such as Kaooa and Crows.

Why is Vultures Popular?

The game is popular due to its simple yet strategic gameplay, which involves players taking turns to drop pieces on the pentagram board and capturing each other’s pieces. The game has been played in various cultures, including ancient Greece and India, and has its roots in the ancient board game Pente Grammai.

Game Components of Vultures

The Game Components of Vultures include:
– A pentagram board
– One vulture piece
– Seven crow pieces
– Different colored or distinguishable vulture and crow pieces

Game Setup of Vultures

Players decide who will play the vulture and who will play the crows. The board is empty in the beginning, and all pieces are set beside the board. Players alternate their turns throughout the game.

Gameplay Mechanics of Vultures

Drop phase: Crows start first, and one crow is dropped anywhere on the board. Crows continue to drop one piece per turn on any vacant point until all seven crows have been dropped, which requires seven turns. Afterwards, the crows can begin to move. After the first crow is dropped, the vulture is dropped by the other player on any vacant point on the board. Vultures can either move one space onto a vacant point per turn following the pattern on the board or capture one crow per turn.

Game Objective of Vultures

The goal of the crows is to block the movements of the vultures, while the goal of the vulture is to capture four crows, which is enough to prevent the crows from ever blocking its movements.
