How To Setup Stratego

Players start by secretly arranging their 40 pieces (or 30) on their side of the board in a 4×10 configuration. The pieces are placed so that the ranks are hidden from the opponent. Players cannot place pieces in the lakes or the 12 central squares on the board.

Objective: Capture the opponent’s Flag or eliminate all their movable pieces.

Turn Structure: Players alternate turns, with each turn allowing one piece to move or attack.
– Pieces move one space vertically or horizontally, except for the Scout which can move any number of spaces in a straight line.

Attacking: When a piece attacks another, both players reveal their piece’s rank; the weaker piece is removed.
– Special rules apply for certain pieces:
– The Spy can capture the Marshal.

– The Bomb can eliminate any attacking piece except the Miner.
