How To Setup Niwa

To set up Niwa, players create a circuit using the 12 garden tiles, placing one base at each end. The tiles form a Japanese garden with spaces bounded by lines of different colors. Each player chooses a color and takes the corresponding figurines, placing two beads of the same color on top of each figurine. The figurines are then placed on any three of the six spaces adjacent to the player’s base.

Gameplay Mechanics and Game Objective

Objective: Be the first player to reach the opponent’s base with one of your figurines.

Movement: Figurines move by crossing colored lines, using beads of the same color as the line.

Bead Management: Beads can be passed between figurines or used to cross lines.

Jumping: A figurine without beads can jump over another figurine to land on one of three spaces behind it.

Blocking: Figurines carrying beads block each other’s passage, requiring them to move around or empty their beads.
