Mage Knight Dungeons (2002)
Mage Knight Dungeons
Mage Knight is a miniatures wargame using collectible figures, created by WizKids, Inc, and is the earliest example of what is now known as a collectible miniatures game (or CMG). The game was released in 2000 and quickly gained popularity, collecting many board game-related awards along the way. Between 2002 and 2005, Wizkids released 13 expansions for Mage Knight, including standalone expansions such as Mage Knight Dungeons. The game was designed by Vlaada Chvátil and released in December 2011, with three distinct expansions and one collection released for Mage Knight Board Game.
Why is Mage Knight Dungeons Popular?
Mage Knight is significant because it was the first collectible miniature game ever released. It was also innovative in its fusion of two major contemporary trends in gaming: collectible card games like Magic, PokéMon, and Yu-Gi-Oh!; and real-time strategy videogames like Warcraft, Starcraft, and Command & Conquer. The game has won several awards, including Best Graphic Presentation Of A Board Game Product for Mage Knight Dungeons in 2001.

How To Setup Mage Knight Dungeons
To set up the game, players first build the dungeon either by choosing a pre-made map or by taking turns placing dungeon tiles to maintain contiguity. Next, treasures and random encounter tokens are placed on the tiles. The treasure chests have their inner dials randomized by spinning them, ensuring the contents are unknown until opened.
