Laquet

Laquet

Laquet is a historic Castilian table game that was considered a new game in the 13th century. It may be the ancestor of Jacquet. Unlike Backgammon and most other tables games, it has an asymmetrical starting position; only three of the four quadrants are used and the pieces may not be ‘hit’.

Why is Laquet Popular?

Laquet is a significant game because it is one of the oldest known board games. It is also an ancestor of other popular games such as Jacquet and Backgammon.

Both players move their men anti-clockwise and try to move all their men to the third quadrant and be the first to bear them all off.A piece can move from its point to any empty adjacent point that is connected by a line.A piece can jump over an opposing piece and remove it from the game, if that opposing piece is adjacent and the point beyond it is empty.

Game Objective of Laquet

The aim of Laquet is to move all one’s men to the third quadrant and be first to bear them all off.
