Jungle, also known as Dou Shou Qi, is a modern Chinese board game with an obscure history. The British version, “Jungle King,” was sold in the 1960s by the John Waddington company. The game is popular in the Far East and is known by various names, such as The Jungle Game, Children’s Chess, Oriental Chess, and Animal Chess.

Jungle is a two-player strategy game that resembles the Western game Stratego. The gameboard represents a jungle terrain with dens, traps, and rivers. Each player controls eight game pieces representing different animals of various ranks, and the goal is to maneuver any one of their pieces into the opponent’s den or capture all the opponent’s pieces. The game is popular among children in the Far East.
