FitzIt (2012) Board Game

FitzIt is a party game released in 2012 by Gamewright. It is part of the Port-A-Party series and is designed for 2-17 players, with the best experience being for 4-6 players. The game has a runtime of about 20 minutes and is recommended for players aged 12 and up.

Game Components of FitzIt

  • 265 small, square cards with short descriptive phrases (e.g., “often found in a basement”)
  • Rules of Play

    How To Setup FitzIt

To set up the game, shuffle the 265 cards and deal 15 cards to each player, face-down. The remaining cards are set aside. Each player draws the top five cards from their stack and holds them in their hand, keeping them hidden from other players. A random card from the box is placed face-up in the center of the playing area. For games with more than four players, teams can be formed to ensure no more than four teams are playing[4″.

    Gameplay Mechanics and Game Objective

  • Word Association: Players must associate a noun with as many of their cards as possible, including at least one card already in play.
  • Card Placement: Cards are attached horizontally or vertically to existing cards that describe an aspect of the chosen noun.
  • Unique Nouns: Each player must come up with their own unique nouns and cannot reuse words already used.
  • Challenges: Other players can challenge the association, and if the majority votes against it, the challenged card is removed or the player must take back all their played cards.
  • Scoring: The more cards a player plays, the faster they progress. Special rewards are given for playing four or five cards in one turn, allowing players to penalize others by giving them additional cards.
  • Objective: The first player to play all their cards wins the game.

    Player Experience

FitzIt is a dynamic and engaging game that encourages creativity and quick thinking. Players must think on their feet to come up with nouns that fit the descriptive cards they have. The game can be quite lively, especially with the challenge mechanism, which adds a social and interactive element. It is an excellent choice for parties or family gatherings, as it can accommodate a large number of players and is easy to learn.

    Pros

  • High Player Count: Can be played with 2 to 17 players, making it great for large gatherings.
  • Creative Thinking: Encourages players to think creatively and make connections between seemingly unrelated descriptors.
  • Portable: The game comes in a small box, making it easy to take on trips or to friends’ houses.
  • Engaging Social Interaction: The challenge mechanism adds a fun and interactive element to the game.

    Cons

  • Potential for Disagreements: The challenge mechanism can lead to disputes among players if there are differing opinions on whether a card fits the chosen noun.
  • Dependence on Creativity: Some players may find it challenging if they are not as creative or quick-witted.

    Personal Thoughts on FitzIt

FitzIt is an excellent game for anyone who enjoys word games, creative thinking, and social interaction. It is particularly suited for families, parties, or any group looking for a fun and engaging activity that does not require complex rules or setup. However, it may not be the best fit for those who prefer more strategic or competitive games, as the outcome heavily depends on individual creativity and word association skills. Overall, FitzIt is a great addition to any game collection for those who appreciate a lightweight, entertaining, and intellectually stimulating experience.
