Scrabble Duplicate (2020)

Duplicate Scrabble

Scrabble is a word game in which two to four players score points by placing tiles, each bearing a single letter, onto a game board divided into a 15×15 grid. The game was invented by Alfred Mosher Butts, an architect, in 1931 and was originally called Criss Cross. It was redesigned, renamed as Scrabble, and marketed by James Brunot in 1948. Scrabble transitioned from living-room novelty to competitive passion in the 1960s, when it landed alongside chess, backgammon, and bridge in smoke-filled games parlors in New York City. Duplicate Scrabble is a variant of the board game Scrabble where all the players are faced with the same board and letters at the same time and must play the highest scoring word they can find. It was invented by Hippolyte Wouters circa 1970, a Belgian lawyer who spoke French as his first language.

Why is Duplicate Scrabble Popular?

Scrabble is a popular and significant game because it challenges players to use their vocabulary and strategic thinking skills to form words and score points. It has been produced in many foreign languages, Braille, and magnetic editions and continued to be one of the leading board-and-tile games in the United States. Duplicate Scrabble is a popular variant in French speaking countries and is the most popular form of the game in French and is also played in other languages, such as Romanian and Dutch.
