Coco Capitano (2012) Board Game

Coco Capitano is a children’s board game released in 2012 by the publisher FoxMind. Designed by Wolfgang Dirscherl, the game is set in the world of pirates and encourages players to use their dice-rolling skills and push their luck to become the most successful pirate captain.

Game Components of Coco Capitano

  • Game board featuring the islands of Catan
  • Resource tiles: cutlasses, goats, wood, gold, and molasses
  • Pirate lairs and ships
  • Coco tiles with various benefits
  • Ghost Captain token
  • Dice
  • Market stalls
  • Player tokens and building cost tiles

    How To Setup Coco Capitano

To set up the game, place the board at the center of the table. Each player chooses a color and places their lairs and ships on the starting spaces matching their color. Each player starts with one wood and one molasses resource tile. Sort the resource tiles by type and place them in a stockpile next to the board. One tile from each resource type is placed on the market stalls. Shuffle the Coco tiles and place them in a stack next to the board. The Ghost Captain is placed on Spooky Island.

    Gameplay Mechanics and Game Objective

  • Rolling Dice: Players roll the dice to determine which island generates resources.
  • Resource Collection: Players with lairs adjacent to the rolled island receive the corresponding resource.
  • Ghost Captain: If a 6 is rolled, the Ghost Captain moves to an island of the players’ choice, and no resources are collected from that island.
  • Building and Trading: Players can build pirate lairs and ships using resources, and trade resources with the market or stockpile.
  • Coco Tiles: These tiles offer benefits such as free resources, moving the Ghost Captain, or building lairs/ships for free.
  • Objective: The first player to build seven pirate lairs wins the game.
