Acquire (1963)
Acquire
Acquire is a board game published by 3M in 1964 that involves multi-player mergers and acquisitions. The earliest concept of Acquire was produced by 3M in December 1963 and was played on a board that portrayed a world map. These games were only sold in eight U.S. cities. The game has taken many different forms over the years depending on the publisher, but the basic concept has remained the same. In the mid-1970s, 3M sold its game division to Avalon Hill, and the first AH edition was essentially identical to the 3M yellow board edition.
Why is Acquire Popular?
Acquire is a classic game of getting in on the ground floor and proof that you need money to make money. It is a game of strategy, skill, and luck that has been enjoyed by generations of players. The game has been praised for its delicate sense of timing, and greed and a lust for power also help. Acquire has been included in Games Magazine’s “Top 100 Games” in four consecutive years.
