How To Setup HeartSwitch
To set up HeartSwitch, each player is dealt a hand of cards. The number of cards dealt can vary, but typically, each player gets 13 cards in a 4-player game. The remaining cards are placed face down in a draw pile. Unlike traditional Hearts, in HeartSwitch, any card can be led at any time, providing more flexibility and strategic options.
Gameplay Mechanics and Game Objective
– The lead player plays a single card, and each other player must follow suit if possible.
– Magicians can be played at any time and never win a trick unless the trick consists only of Magicians.
– Witches have special effects: Witch of Spades adds 5 points, Witch of Hearts doubles the points for Hearts up to a maximum of 15, Witch of Diamonds reduces the score by 5 points, and Witch of Clubs cancels the points for the Queen or Witch of Spades.
– Players score points for collected Hearts (1 point each) and the Queen of Spades (13 points).
– “Shooting the Moon” involves collecting all Hearts and either the Witch or Queen of Spades, resulting in zero points for the player and significant penalty points for others.
Player Experience
HeartSwitch offers a fresh and dynamic take on the classic Hearts game. The addition of Magicians and Witches introduces new strategies and complexities, making the game more engaging and unpredictable. The flexibility in leading any card at any time opens up creative play opportunities and gambits, such as setting up a “Shoot the Moon” hand early in the game.
