Aquaretto (2008) Board Game

Aquaretto is a board game released in 2008, designed by well-known game designer Michael Kiesling. It is a spin-off of the popular game Zooloretto, where players are zoo managers collecting animals. In Aquaretto, players are managing an aquarium and collecting different types of sea creatures.

Game Components of Aquaretto

  • Water zoo boards
  • Depot boards
  • Large and small expansion boards
  • Animal tiles
  • Coworker tiles
  • Delivery trucks
  • Coins and coin tiles
  • Offspring tiles
  • Wooden disc tiles

    How To Setup Aquaretto

To set up Aquaretto, each player takes a water zoo board and a depot board, placing them in their play area. They also receive 2 large and 2 small expansion boards, which are placed face down. Each player starts with 1 coin and the remaining coins are placed on the table as a supply. Coworker tiles are also made available on the table. Players choose a starting player and prepare the delivery trucks and tile stacks according to the rules.

    Game Objective:

  • Collect and place animal tiles in the water zoo to attract visitors.

    Player Experience

In Aquaretto, players engage in a strategic game of tile placement and resource management. The game requires careful planning to optimize the use of space in the water zoo and to make the most of the available resources, including coins and coworkers. • Requires attention to detail in tile placement and space optimization.

    Personal Thoughts on Aquaretto

Aquaretto is ideal for players who enjoy strategic tile-laying games and are familiar with the mechanics of its predecessor, Zooloretto. It offers a challenging yet rewarding experience, particularly for those who appreciate the combination of luck and strategy. New players may find the game complex at first, but once the rules are understood, it provides a rich and engaging experience. If you enjoy games that require careful planning and resource management, Aquaretto is definitely worth considering.
