Cindr (2020) Board Game

Cindr is a dice-based board game released in 2020, designed by Leah Fuhrman and published by Smirk & Laughter Games. The game falls under the categories of Fantasy and Humor, making it a light-hearted and entertaining option for game nights.

Game Components of Cindr

  • 12 Dice: 4 of three different colors (green=good, blue=neutral, red=potentially bad)
  • 18 Second Chance Cards: Try Again (purple), Apology (pink), Do Over (blue)
  • User Profile Cards
  • Dragon Profile Cards
  • Location Cards
  • Compatibility Matcher chart
  • 5 black dry erase markers with erasers
  • Solo/Co-Op Love Meter Card

    How To Setup Cindr

To set up Cindr, each player chooses a User Profile Card and customizes it with a name, pronoun, likes, and dislikes using a dry erase marker. Players then circle one attribute per row on the Compatibility Matcher chart. The remaining Second Chance cards are placed face up in stacks within reach. The Dragon Profile cards are shuffled and placed face-up in the center, forming the App Deck, with space for the Dating Pool below. Location cards are shuffled and placed beside the App Deck. Each player receives one Try Again Card, and the dice are made available.

    Gameplay Mechanics and Game Objective

  • Dice Rolling: Players roll dice up to three times per turn, each roll representing a stage of the date.
  • Push-Your-Luck: The goal is to accumulate Love Points by rolling hearts without getting burned by rolling three Fire symbols.
  • Location and Dragon Powers: Location cards and dragon powers can affect the dice pool, adding challenges or bonuses.
  • Second Chances: Players can use Second Chance cards to re-roll or remove Fire results.
  • Objective: The first player to reach 21 Love Points triggers the final turns, where each player has an equal number of turns.

    Player Experience

Cindr offers a unique blend of luck and strategy, making each date with a dragon an exciting and unpredictable adventure. Players must balance the risk of rolling Fire symbols against the reward of earning Love Points. The game’s theme, involving a dating app for dragons, adds a humorous and engaging element that enhances the overall experience.

    Pros

  • Unique Theme: Dating dragons adds a fun and imaginative twist.
  • Interactive Mechanics: The combination of dice rolling, Second Chance cards, and dragon powers keeps the game engaging.
  • Customizable Characters: Players can tailor their User Profile Cards to their preferences.
  • Replayability: Variations in dragon powers and location effects ensure different experiences each time.

    Cons

  • Luck-Dependent: The game’s reliance on dice rolls can make it less appealing to those who prefer more strategic gameplay.
  • Simple Rules: While easy to learn, some players might find the rules too straightforward and lacking in depth.

    Personal Thoughts on Cindr

Cindr is ideal for players who enjoy light-hearted, family-friendly games with a dash of humor and luck. It’s perfect for casual game nights or as an introduction to more complex board games.
