How To Setup Bear Down!
To set up Bear Down!, place the game board on top of the box, ensuring the river flows down off the edge. The board is divided into bare rock, the pool, and the river, which is split into five color-coded streams. Use one more stream than the number of players; for example, in a four-player game, use all five streams but not the bottom one in a three-player game, and not the top or bottom streams in a two-player game. Remove the dice for any unused streams. Place 10 river tiles underneath the big rock token for potential later use. Distribute six river tiles in each of the used streams, some of which may be hidden under bare rock. Place one salmon token on the river tile just before the edge of the waterfall on each stream, and put the rest of the fish in the pool. Each player places their bear on bare rock and takes the corresponding bear token. The first player takes the five dice and rolls them to determine the initial river movement.
