曼荼羅 (Mandara) (2015) Board Game

曼荼羅 (Mandara) is a board game released in 2015 that delves into the world of religious symbolism and rituals. Designed by 麻生忠嗣 (Tadatsugu Asou) and featuring artwork by Yusuke Mamada, this game provides players with a unique and immersive experience centered around the concept of mandalas.

Game Components of 曼荼羅

  • Play mat**
  • Colored sand cards** (110 cards, 18 cards in each of 6 colors)
  • Action overview cards** (2 cards)
  • Cup and River spaces** for each player

    How To Setup 曼荼羅

To set up the game, place the play mat in the middle of the play area. Shuffle the sand cards thoroughly and create a draw deck beside the play mat, leaving space for a face-up discard pile. Draw 2 cards from the deck and place them face up in the Mountain area of each Mandala on the play mat. Each player sets up their play area by drawing 6 cards from the deck into their hand and 2 cards into their Cup. Determine who goes first, typically the oldest player.

    Gameplay Mechanics and Game Objective

  • Objective: Complete the mandala by playing colored sand cards and collect points based on the cards in your Cup that match the colors in your River.
  • Gameplay:
    – Players alternate turns, playing colored sand cards into the central Mountain or their side Fields.
    – When a Mandala is complete, it is destroyed, and players claim the cards from the Mountain based on their control over the Mandala.
    – The game ends when all six colors are present in a player’s River or when the cards in the Mountain have been claimed.
    – Score points for the cards in your Cup that match the colors in your River.

    Player Experience

Playing Mandara is a unique blend of cooperation and competition. Players must strategically place their colored sand cards to both complete the mandala and gain an advantage over their opponents. The game requires tactical thinking and a bit of luck, making it engaging and challenging.
